On the 19th of October while visiting a park, I spotted a blue heron just sitting and preening it’s self on the edge of a man-made garden-on-stone-on-water structure just to the edge so it could get a glimpse of the sun reflecting on the water. It’s long S-shaped body was a dead give away for the blue Heron. Oh and FYI, birds or any animal that is like 10 feet away is pretty hard to pick up on camera. This was the best I could do:
In case you want to know how to tell a heron from other birds because this photo is far away then continue reading: A heron has an S-shaped neck and a mostly white neck. It’s wings and tail feathers are usually a different color. Their wingspan is very long and so is their neck. Their head looks strangely like a mix of a pelican and a crane. 90 % of the time you will most likely find them by a pond, river, or lake. (likely on a log or tree branch above the surface). They eat fish and are very similar to a pelican and a crane. 10 % of the time you will see them on land or in the air. Though the chances of seeing a heron picking berries or taking a photo of some friends are very low. Even though they are pretty much always by a lake, river, or pond, you probably won’t find them swimming around and skinny dipping with friends.
